I got a call from KPMG. I got shortlisted for an interview with them.
Can't decide if I should rejoice or be sad. Not that keen on working with them, but its the only call I received so far. Crossing my fingers for more calls from my prospective employers.

Frankly, I feel this shitty 311 course is not about testing one's Strategic Management skills, rather its a test of your networks and contacts. If you so incidentally have alot of smart ass dean-listers as your friends, then you will stand to gain by engaging in a discussion with them as to how they are going to approach analysing the case. Its a test of how resourceful you are in finding information about the case. Maybe I could arrange for an interview with Jennie Tay? Would she oblige to this pathetic request from a low-ranking local university? And as with all closed book exams, its a test of memory!!!! When would the syllabus really move away from rote learning? And stop the unfair rewarding of As to those pea-brained, sheltered nerds who simply regurgitate everything from the text. NO, I'M NOT SOUR! Its just downright unjustified.

I screwed up my big day
Firstly, its the 311 presentation. A slip of tongue and a very picky tutor ruined my hopes of pulling my grades to an A.
Next, the most embarrassing and devastating incident in my 3 years in Business School.
ITS THE END FOR ME.
Never before had I fumbled in my presentations. Be it speaking in front of an audience of 100, or engaging a class in an impromptu discussion. It was never a problem for me. Today, I wasn't even nervous before the presentation. In fact, I even mentioned to my teammate that I was surprisingly calm.
I have no idea what came over me at that point in time...even now, I still stare blankly at space, stupefied as I recount that fateful aftnoon.
Somehow, I thank God for this painful lesson. It is indeed a humbling one.
Also, another thought occured to me as I did my QT tonight. I never really relied on God. I tot I could do it on my own. I tot I was sufficient on my own.
In the midst of rushing for the reports and presentations this week, I have simply forgotten about Him. Rushing to close up the gap on my study timetable, squeezing in as much as I can into my 24hrs, sometimes even at the expense of my QT and bedtime prayers, (cos I fell asleep on the bed with my book and pens open, radio and lights on!)I took everything on my own stride
I tried to accomplish everything with my own human strength. I tot I could.
But I'm wrong.
I feel deserted and alone. I really question what am I doing all this for??
Somehow, i feel immensely lonely. Despite having so many friends, there is a resounding emptiness in me. Could it be that God is no longer in there?
Ok..I'm too stressed out.
So i have done something hilarious whilst destressing on one of my 7 mins break (learnt frm caline to take odd numbered mins for breaks and naps!)

Couples make out often at the beginning of the year, precisely on the night of new year's eve. Symbolic of a fresh start for the year, or simply to seize that special night. Therefore, doing your maths, babies would be born approximately around the month of Oct! That's why I have SO MANY FRIENDS CELEBRATING THEIR BIRTHDAYS THIS MONTH!!! She is so disciplined. She's my role model.

Apparently, all in all, those Big 4 are hiring about 600 NTU grads. There are about 550-600 students. Discounting for those who want to join the banks, or non-accounting related industries or wants to be their own boss, there would be only about 500 left. The demand exceeds the supply. We all get a job? Unbelieveable. Will remember to replenish the plasters in my purse. Those pumps are killing me!

We fought hard. We won by a huge margin. We are the real stuff! Yesterday marks the end of the Street Challenge Tournament. It has been 3 days of endless laughter, crap, bitching, acting bimbotic, taking photos, and of course playing netball! Only managed to have my "dinner" at 11pm! Damn bloody famished lar!!! Btw, I have just learnt two supposedly very widely accepted acronyms (at least according to Joel and Angeline!). Time for me to nurse my aches and bruises...

Street Challenge
Joined the competition with no hopes of winning whatsoeva. Only hope that we would not cover the bottom of the charts. Gave ourselves a really laughable team name too. So no one would put their money on us even winning. We emerged the top of our group! Think we are really rusty and old. Only after a short game, we are out of breath, muscles aching, toe nails breaking, blah blah...totally living up to our team name of Bimbos!! It has become a ritual to take photos incessantly before seriously starting our training. So I have lots of photos to post here! Waiting for Ying Ciu to upload.
The past two days have been really tiring..but nonetheless, very fun!
We are a really a fluke team I have to say.
Out of 4 games, we only played two. Two other were walkovers! Seems like Murphy is really is Barbados!

Employment Doldrums
Big day for all accountancy students. I can imagine the mad rush to print name cards (wonder if my printer is sending me mine today....), the scramble to polish up the resumes, the last minute haircut and shopping for power suits... all out to impress the Big 4 recruiters. No longer can I walk out of the office unabashedly at 5.30pm sharp. Neither can I long to snuggle up with the commuters on the train at 6pm. I won't get to see my parents at all the whole week. I'll be gone before they are up and I'll only be back at 3am. Gross salary $2000 Here's the official working hours:Mon - Fri: 830 - 530 (i.e. 180 hours per month) And according to Employment Act, if you earn >$1600, you are considered as an executive (joke huh?), so no OT for you. That's lower than what you'd earn in MacDonalds or as a shift worker in any factory! I'm victimised.
Yah, its official. The Big 4 are coming down ALL at one shot to recruit.
Somehow, its like NS for me. I have to work for at lest 2 yrs in order to be a Certified Public Accountant. It will be hell for me in those firms.
Here's how a typical big 4 contract pay structure is like:
MVC $100
Actual take home: $1600
Possible take home $1500
The actual working hours:Mon - Sat: 830 - 12am (i.e. 378 hours per month)
Therefore, the amount you earn per hour in audit is calculated as:= $1600/378= $4.23
