Bitter Acceptance

The weekend feels just like any other weekday now that I'm just bumming around.

The only difference is perhaps I do not workout on the weekends cos' the gym and the pool is just crowded.

Other than that, everything else is pretty much the same.

I'm still the latchkey child...I'm still alone at home. Even during the weekends, HamSam works. So I'm with myself.

I no longer look forward to the weekends. Funny how having too much time is becoming a bane cos' the once coveted and cherished weekends are no longer that alluring.

I can't complain...cos' I will regret it the day when I start working.

But who is there to carp to anyway?

Acceptance is the best recourse.

Today is the 2 yrs 8 months anniversary of my relationship with him. Not like it's the jinxed 7th year nor the seemingly "complete" 5th or 10th year. Its merely the 32nd month that we are together. There's no cause for celebration much less remembrance...

I need to get away somewhere...this is driving me crazy.

Who bothers?

Sequence of events for the day:

Driving, Gym, Swim and Cell meeting.

Vanilla and me trying to emulate the Shape magazine models!

It is evident that we failed miserably.

Just a random question, how much is a reasonable price for an engagement ring?

I understand that the gents have a very different idea about the price range from the ladies.

No, no...in case you guys are wondering, I'm not getting hitched anytime soon. We are both not ready, and I'm not really buying into the whole marriage thingy YET.

I'm so drained from the day.

Metal Memoirs

I'm aching all over now...from all the moving and cleaning. It was Operation Space.

For those who are not in the know, I have set out to redo my room, with the sole purpose to create more space.

I dismantled a shelf and used the display cabinet as a tv unit. I'm brilliant! I could have thrown it out and get a new shelf, but I guess I couldn't bear to do so. The shelf which I personally painted with stars have been with me since I was about 15.

In the midst of cleaning out all the trophies, it brought back many memories. Each trophy tells a story. Here it goes:

The first trophy I ever got.

That was teamwork at the age of 7! Its probably the primary school equivalent of the uni's dragon boat race, only its on land and instead of oars, we used our tiny legs.

The interclass matches. I didn't know the volleyball and netball look soooo similar.

The reigning champions for 4 years! Interclass competitions, unlike at national level, was great fun because there's no pressure from coaches to perform, and it was fantastic bonding sessions playing with schoolmates!

And when I'm so sick of playing netball and foaming at the mouth at the sight of a netball....

My first foray into Softball.

My last run/exercise/competition before I went for my first ACL reconstruction on my right knee. Thereafter, its painful rehab for 6 months.

The weirdest shaped trophy in my entire collection. No doubt it represents accurately the ball of the sport, rugby, it kindda resembles a vital organ from the male anatomy too! They should have just given out a medal!

After that it was yet another operation and thus hiatus from the sporting scene. This time, its to remove the torn meniscus in the same knee. So to date, I have about 3 screws, half a meniscus left, and an artificial hamstring-grafted ligament in my right knee.

Call me the Bionic Woman.

Ronaldo gave me the inspiration to start again after the mess in my knee. So, I joined soccer when I entered uni. It was great fun!! Hahaha....with SpunkIce and Smallfart, training sessions were hilariously outrageous!

This is the medal from the game with NUS.

I HAD TO stop playing soccer after about a semester. My knee was failing me, buckling all the time and it cried out to me to stop damaging it! Since then, I developed arthritis and when it rains, I will be almost bed-ridden.

Thereafter, no more serious competitive sports. Just the usual runs and swims to keep my weight in check. Occasionally, I still do take part in events. Like the Surf and Sweat's Surf and Run. It's a team event where one swims out on a surfboard and the other runs in the x-terrains of Sentosa.

In 2004, I did it with HamSam. In 2005, I did it with his brother, Joel.

The last competitive netball game. It was also the flukiest competition ever! Together with SpunkIce, Cutesy Pie and many others, it was a memorable ending to our university life.

The whole collection. If only they are made of real gold...

I'm not all brawn and no brains. My Young Scientist badges!

I'm an environmentalist, ecologist, mathematician and a chemist!

The partially remodeled room:

I will be putting some paint on the drab walls and removing the cabinet which is taking up unnecessary space on my very mini-sized room.

Bigger rug, but I'm in a dilemma. On one hand I will need it to prevent my CEO-sized chair from starching the parquet, but yet, I like the feel of wood under my feet.

I'm thinking a flat screen 17" plasma tv would so complete the look!

Much much more improvements!! I'm occupied for the next week!

Larger or Stout for you?

I woke up this morningafternoon balking at my room.

Nothing wrong with it...but I'm just bored with the design and the placing of the fixtures.

Its cosy by "standards", but perhaps TOO cosy to the point of it being "crampish". My dad always complains that my room is a fire hazard...especially with my candles and aromatherapy oils burning.

Mummy's perennial complain is that its so difficult to vacuum and clean my room that all known possible germ in the world is thriving in my abode.

So I set out with designing a new room. Started off with measurements and drawing out everything to scale on paper.

Cut out scaled diagrams of all the movable fixtures in my room like the bed and desk and arranging them on the scaled drawing to visualize the best arrangement of furniture for optimal free space.

Yes, yes...I'm VERY free...

=============================================

Impromptu meetup with Vanilla and SpunkIce in the evening.

Late dinner cos' of the Mango sale. It was madness. I pity the guys there with their girls...they look so despondent, helping their girlfriends carry the clothes to be tried on or helping to queue for the fitting room. It was a look of despair and I can see it in their eyes that they wish they could be at home infront of their telly or out with the boys.

Guys and shopping just do not go!

I know for sure HamSam would sulk the whole time if he was with me in that sale! He will bail out in 15mins tops and head for the benches outside.

We had wanted to go for drinks at Balaclava, but changed venue cos' of the crowd. So we ended up at Paulander (Millennia Walk) for some freshly brewed German larger.

The beer is smooth and will go well with most ladies (not the calories duh!) because of its subtle sweetness. Comparing with the other well-known brewery, Brewerks, I would say Paulander makes a better brew.

I need to work out tomorrow and get into a calorie deficit!! Yah right, like that is possible....bleah...

DJ Llihc

I haven changed my song for a long time cos' of some problems with the angelfire account. I'm just thankful I can still upload songs...although I do not know for how much longer.

Anyway, song of the moment is Wonderful Tonight by Damage. It was sung by baby after his "fiasco" with the Dancing in the Moonlight.

All I can say is ...this was the song that hit it home....for me at least.

Against all Odds

It was like old times again when we met up last evening.

Finally the 3 of us...with Soph. It used to be easy getting the three of us together weekly for bible study meetings...but these days, trying to find a time to meet up together is like expecting snow in sunny island Singapore.

She watched us grow. From the pokka-dotted skirts (or bubble prints...wateva is on the SHSS uniform!), to the respective sucky coloured JC uniforms, the sloppy undergraduate attire, and finally to the corporate power suits. It has been a long ride.

========================================================

In line with living my idyllic lifestyle, I went for a stroll and tea this afternoon. Ended off with grocery shopping for my dessert making in the evening. I treasure simple pleasures like being able just to sip on tea and read a book or think about things.

I'm in a brooding mood these days. That's perhaps the result of me having too much ME Time.

HamSam is very busy with his business these days...so I'm learning to cope with his late night working hours.

The sad consolation: I would be working just as late, if not later, than him in future when I start work. So I wouldn't have time to bug him about dinner plans and he won't need to fret about squeezing time outta his tight schedule to meet me.

Having kids is definitely the last thing I can think about given such circumstances. Thankfully, I do not have a proclivity for kids anyway.

But I can't say the same for his parents or mine.

Am I a cynic or is my life such a miserable grind?

Comic-Relieve

It was a stay-home Saturday. We rolled up our sleeves and did some cooking for ourselves and lazed to DVDs, wine and broad beans.

We had:

1. Pappardelle fettuccine cooked in extra virgin olive oil, oregano herbs and lemon zest.

2. Homestyle mushroom and chicken chowder

3. Blanched French beans and carrots

4. Country grilled chicken

Hahaha...ok lar, the pictures probably doesn't match my over-zealous, albeit superfluous, descriptions but its what we INTENDED it to be....and it does somewhat taste as it was SUPPOSED to be!

I have been reading a lot of Spidey comics lately, so I'm in the comic-y mood.
Here's my Sunday afternoon comic style.

By this time, Surfer Babe is infuriated that precious shopping time is lost just cause HamSam simply refuse to shop anymore!!!!

She mumbles and grumbles...wondering why is it that her darling can run on the treadmill and lift heavy weights in the gym yet this piece of beefcake can't even walk the whole stretch from Wisma to Plaza Singapura and carry a few shopping bags!

Hmmph!!

Sensing Surfer's wrath brewing, HamSam decided to wisen up and cajoled his love to stop fuming and that he will carry on shopping with her.

The Beautiful Sunday is saved!

This might not be a 100% accurate portrayal of characters and event. Of course, I never ill-treat my baby this way! Right dearie? hehe

Life's Ups and (mostly) Downs

When the weather is so gloomy (not to mention RAINY!!!) ....

and you had just suffered a MAJOR setback....

Eating is the best diversion. An evening pigging out at Srg Gdns with SpunkIce.

The Main Course.

Desserts at this COOL (both chic and chilly!) place.

I have never felt more satisfied (and sinful) in the longest time.

There were many flashy cars at srg gdns. But my favourite has got to be this:

HamSam lurves his new cuffies!

I may be all smiles...but its just a facade...I hate some things that is happening in my life.

Goodnight world.

Cuff me Up!

It just dawned upon me that I have severe night blindness. I was driving the other night and I can barely see the road signs a few metres ahead of me...missing a few turns and almost knocking into some road barricades by the side of the road.

Note to self: Get a new pair of specs.

I went to town for a lil' shoppie and met Vanilla for dinner yesterday. Our original intention to shop at Tangs after dinner turned out to a shopping trip at the men's department @ Taka. It wouldn't have been had I not needed to sit and put a plaster on my blistered feet (from all the running, not shopping!) @ that level.

We got cuff links for the guys. There were soooo many designs and some were just so cute and pretty. So much so that we wanna don them on ourselves...As Vanilla said, cufflinks to guys are like earrings to women.

Trying out the cuffies with a fake cuff! Its so nifty!

I don't think I can sleep tonight....tomorrow's The Big Day!

Love Puke

Let the pictures do the talking! Pictures taken with my new Optio! I was the assigned Snapper for the day.

First up, MakeUp101.

PeeAss: Those pair of scary looking eyes belong to SpunkIce.

All dolled up finally!

The sun-kissed (or rather sun-swallowed).

The wistful dreamy pose typical in most wedding shots

Finally the guys were here to pick us up.

The front and the rear passengers.

Trouble with finding a parking space at Suntec and time not being on our side, we parked at the Padang in the end. We rushed for our dinner cos' we were running slightly behind schedule for our play.

But Murphy has once again risen to the occasion. There were hiccups in the kitchen and they took longer than usual to serve us.

Which means more time for mindless snapping!

Back then in the 70s...

We attempted to mimic our parents' retro photo taking poses.

Now in 2005…

I finished my bowl of TomYum Glass Noodles in a record time of 12 mins!

The play was rightfully R(A)! Haha.... It was great and very entertaining. Janice Koh is still our favourite idol and Study Goddess, right Spunkie?

Headed for drinks at Harry'
s after the show.

Chili Nachos does goes quite well with Chardonnay!

Our stomachs were still grumbling, so we went Chomping at Srg Gdns!

The wings were succulent and well roasted...it takes a lot of resilience to resist the temptation to sink your teeth in one of them. Salutes to Fudgey for accomplishing that feat!

Finished reading my Daniel Chia novel. Let me end off with one of the numerous corny/witty/lame quotes in his book.

Q: What do a lawyer and a drunkard have in common?

A: Both are members of the bar.

Optio Baby

Got myself new toy today.

Presenting the new.....

Pentax Optio S5n !!!

I'm going out of the norm by getting this camera. I mean...seriously, how many people do you know of has a camera of this brand? Discounting the hardcore photo enthusiasts (cos' the photo gurus in the shop tells me that this brand is popular amongst them...u know those guys with the HUGE long pinochicco *not sure abt the spelling..I have no childhood* lenses jutting outta their camera), I can't think of anyone who has a Pentax!

This is a huge step outta the crowd for me...choosing this over a Casio Exlim or a Canon Ixus 50, but I am proud of the choice I have made.

It is a truly amazing camera packed with many features. Just Google it and read the reviews... It has an average rating of 4.8/5!

Oh well...all I can say is that we (me and my darling Optio) are going to have a smooth ride in the years to come!

Wanton

Q: What is a man guilty of if he doesn't appreciate his WanTon Mee and picks at his food?

A: Wanton disregard.

That has got to be one of the lamest and wittiest joke I have ever read in a novel. I must say Daniel Chia is one damn good writer.

Random Musings

I'm sipping on a glass of Penfolds Shiraz with my candles lighted and music in the player in the cool comfort of my little pad...
I love spending the night chillin' out in my room and having my alone time.

I know I wouldn't have such a luxury when I start work. I will be crawling back at 3 in the morning and just collapsing in bed to wake up the next morning for yet another cycle of hell. Sigh....that's life for me.
Driving is picking up in intensity cos' the dreaded test is coming up next week. I really need to strike off the license on my wishlist.

Anyway, I have sold my camera! That means I can go camera hunting soon!! I'm a real sucker for gadgets....speaking of which, I'll be going with SpunkIce to shop for our iPod mini this Friday.

I’ll download Corrinne May's album from iTunes right after. Her voice really has a way with me.

Saturday is the play and I'm hopping over to SpunkIce's place before that for Makeup Lesson 101...and dolling each other up for the play in the evening too. I know we are a little too old for such girly activities, but what the heck. Relive the good ol' days of carefree slumber parties where we paint each other toe nails and bitch about all our infatuations. Except now, its no longer about nail vanish but about perfecting the smoky eyes effect and its no longer about infatuations but about love and work woes.

Swimming for me tomorrow, hope the weather will not be as sucky as today's.

DJ Llihc

Throughout the following weeks/months, I will be featuring songs on my blog with the common theme being that they are songs performed by my love on stage during the yesteryears of his undergraduate days!

This song was not his first, but it's the first song I ever heard him performed on stage. It wasn't THE song that enchanted me, really....I was more tickled and puzzled when I saw HamSam singing/swinging to this song on the stage cos' it was totally unexpected and I was still sweating away in my soccer attire, complete with the boots then! Totally unglam and I'm sure I couldn't be the girl that caught his attention in the audience!

HoneyMuffins

It is a relaxing domesticated Sunday this weekend. I put off shopping plans with SpunkIce because we reckon that the streets will be strewn with all the irritating brats. I just hate the school holidays!!

The trains and buses become more crowded and noisy, with seats that could have been empty but now being occupied by the monsters. Town becomes a playground for them, creating superfluous din in the once peaceful shopping environment. If they wanna play catching or some other dumb-ass games, go to the void decks or wateva...dun create a scene in town, bumping into serious, genuine shoppers *ahem* and irritate the hell outta them!

The gym is also contaminated. What does a 14 year old kid know about weights?!! And I have to spend more time waiting for the 12 yr old kiddo get off the treadmill or stepper! For goodness sake, they have no need to be in a gym at their age!!! Play catching or kick a ball to lose that baby fat lar! They should really raise the age limit for entrance to the gym...make it 16 at least!!

No doubt I went to the gym when I was 13 but it wasn't for FUN nor by choice. It was purely for rehabilitation purposes, due to my reconstructed ligament...otherwise I wouldn't have stepped into that horrid place at such a young tender age.

ARGH!!! THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS IS DRIVING ME MAD!!

No photos from my beach outing on Saturday cos' HamSam forgot to bring my camera! Boy, was I suffering from the photo taking withdrawal syndrome... But it was great...Reading a book, lazing on the sand and sipping on ice cool green-tea...So the both of us were reading away under the coconut tree and enjoying each other's company. Incidently, the book HamSam in currently reading is rather interesting. Some business management book offering 201 tips..some of them really hilarious. Eg. Cater to the gay consumer.

So anyway...we dabbled in some baking this Sunday afternoon after church, and baked blueberry muffins. It's the first time baby baked and he was so boyishly thrilled when he witnessed the muffins raising in the oven.

Turned out well...no charred pieces and the bottom peels off the cup cleanly! SUCCESS! It's delicious! Pity we didn't have a lot....after giving to his parents, I'm left with only a few for myself!

Baby was so elated that he wants to open a muffin shop and it will be called HoneyMuffins!

This is how he will pose for the press if they ever interview him about his muffin shop.

Gay-ish pose by the Muffin Baker

Ending off with the ultimate poseurs.

We are so meant for each other....

WWE

I went down to the PC Show at the Expo with HamSam this evening. It was quite a let down. Pales in comparison to Comex or Sitex.

Not many booths to start off with and not also many products exhibited. Only a few camera companies were there with only one distributor, Bally Photo, covering most brands like Canon, Casio, Olympus, Nikon etc. Needless to say, the MP3 lynchpins: Apple and Creative, had huge booths too. Perhaps the only plus point would be the fact that there were many computer-specific products and of course many PCs and lappies on sale.

We left the Expo in less than an hour, partly because they were closing and also I figured baby needs to rest given the deep cut he has on his upper left eyelid. That silly boy walked right into a lamppost and bumped his head complete with a resounding gong!

But being the wrestling-crazy fella he is, he feels much more gung-ho and very much like a wrestler! I can only roll my eyes at him...my 26 yrs old love....

Some backgrd info: According to HamSam, he says when wrestlers on WWE bleed (mostly from the ACT of smashing a metal chair or table on the head), it is usually from a small slit done at the eyelids cos' that's the point where most blood can be "shed" in the lest dangerous way.

Anyway, I pray for a good weather tmw cos' we are heading to the beach! Its one of those rare Saturdays where baby has a day off from his never ending work...so its gonna be a fun-filled day at Sentosa!

Getting in Shape

What a run...I haven had my late night runs for a long time...not since my exams. I took the longer and more scenic route. The cooling night breeze in my face, the soft thumping of my footsteps, the rhythmatic breathing, and the calming anonymity the night allows me to have....
Its just so rejuvenating. Beats gorging on pratas for supper!!

Dinner yesterday @ Modesto with the girlies was great. Comforting assurances and startling revelations marked the evening. This is a transitional period for many of us. Graduating and starting work, moving onto a new job, and changing perspectives about our future...I hold my breath in anticipation of the new tomorrow.
We have all to thank Darevurls' darling Gordy for the meal! The gentleman footed the bill for the evening....very sweet gesture indeed.

By the way, I have got an iPod shuffle on sale. Check it out on my auctions..the direct link to the item here. It's a brand new unopened set which I got free from Singtel. Email me if you are a reader and I could give you a discount off the starting price.

So Cutesy Pie and Vanilla.R, when's the Rawa deal?!?!I'm gate crashing...with Darevurls!! Haha
