At last...
We have reached the 4th Quarter of 2008. It doesn't really feel like the close of a year for me because my life (which is taken up so much by work) is influenced by when the promotions and bonuses takes place (in June).
But the last quarter is typically marked with many festivities. And this year in particular, its weddings.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining and of cos' I'm glad to receive invites to join the couples in celebrating their holy matrimony...but when I work out the sums of the cash outflows for all the upcoming weddings, I might just run into a deficit for the month!
I've to forgo the bag I was drooling over, I've to eat cha soba at home more often (helps in the diet too), and I've to stare and bid my funds/shares to appreciate! !
Warning: Haphazard thoughts/writing coming up.
Btw, I absolutely similar sentiments as Sumiko Tan's article in the Sunday Times about the modern undomesticated woman. She represents the many working women of today. Please read it and force your bfs/fiances/husbands to do so too.
Sumiko is better than me. I don't even know how to turn normal instant noodles into Char Siew noodles like her...All I can manage is idiot-proof cha soba. Believe it or not, I can't even work the rice cooker to cook a decent bowl of rice.
And its definitely true that we can't compare ourselves to ladies belonging to mummy's era. They have all the time in the world to hone their culinary skills. I get back home at 12am and I'll be lucky if I have yoghurt to line my stomach with.
So unless my husband is rich enough to make me a stay home "house"-wife, he should not expect to come home to an immaculately dusted house with a scrumptious home-cooked meal laid out on the table. Even then, he should chip in and help with the roster too. There should not be a strict demarcation between the study and the kitchen these days.
All I can say is that there is a long way to go with indoctrinating this guy in particular about the ways of The Modern Household.
The closest we get to Bondi.
Its far from it actually (the Banglas spoiled the landscape).
But we improvise and make do...
On the day my very tiresome reporting was over and done with, HamSam dropped by my work place just to have dinner with me. It's a rare occurrence since he works at an extreme end of the island.
We had dinner at the bar across the street!
The Fish and (humongous) Chips is definitely worth trying again. Crazy Hour (which is even better than Happy Hour) prices are reasonable too. Great place to unwind after a hard day at work.
A typical Saturday for me would be like this:
Morning: Breakfast (not in bed).
Late Morning: Gym
Late Noon: Office/Shopping/Reading
Evening: Dinner
Night: After-dinner drinks (Wine please).
Late Night: Sleep
Its a routine that I'm never tired of and I look forward to it every day of the week!
This was After-Gym drinks, reading and napping (for the beauty queen) last Saturday.
Nope. We do not have the same specs. He was trying to shed off his casanovic image to look like a bookworm.
He has irritatingly 20/20 vision.
Dinner @ Dempsey.
I must say we are very lucky to be able to have a dinner seating without reservations at PS. Cafe on a Saturday evening.
The food is great...and I'm still wondering how can a clothing retailer be so successfully diversified in their restaurant foray. The menu is seasonal, so do check back maybe every quarter (I can't stand the financial geek in me talking about time in terms of quarters) for new savoury creations.
The ambience gives a feel like I'm eating in someone's summer getaway. The roof is corrugated zinc, with white washed wooden pines and uncovered bricks lining the walls. Together with the understated warm lights and the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed and romantic date with that special someone.
(Tip: Do not go alfresco if your legs aren't covered. The lush greenery at Dempsey Hill is a haven for mosquitoes!)
I'm starting work in a new department tmw. Taking a 6-week break from Assurance. I'll be having a short stint (and thus improving my resume of course) at Advisory - Corporate Restructuring.
I'm totally excited about it. It's been a long while since I do not have the Sunday Turquoise.
